The vote was a day late but SB 47 passed in the Senate to allow people to have private contracts involving livestock and poultry. Before it was not legal or illegal as the law was silent but that did not hinder the government from cracking down on citizens. Now we must work on the legislation in the House in the coming weeks as we are sure they will have questions and we need to be ready to have answers and work with them. Already the chair of the Ag Committee in the House Rep. Tom McKee has said he would be against this legislation basically for partisan reasons alone.

Congratulations to all who worked on it, Sen. Schickel for his sponsorship and efforts (as well as Sen Clark, Sen Leeper, Sen Webb, Sen Wilson), Sen Givens for his Leadership on this issue, Sen Seum for pushing for the vote today, and Sen. President David Williams for having a listening ear to the grassroots citizens of Ky. Note that some of these Nay votes are complicated, like Sen. Pendleton representing his dairy farmer constituents (this is understandable), Sen. Parrett actually voted for it in committee against his wishes, but then actually going against the will of his constituents on the floor (he said as much) and voted against it (that was not understandable and he needs to be replaced).
